The festival falls on the Bhadon month of the Hindu calendar which is in August or September of the Gregorian calendar. Special events and celebrations are held in cities like Vrindavan and Mathura.
- Ganga Mahotsav: An integral part of Hindu tradition and culture, river Ganga is a holy river and highly revered by Hindu pilgrims. The Ganga Mahotsav is organised on the Dashashwamedh Ghat in Varanasi. The festival is dedicated to Goddess Ganga and the river Ganga.
